Equine care - Horse sitting

Bespoke Care

At Sue’s Pet Care we offer a bespoke care package designed just for you and your horse. Before taking on any job, we always meet with you and your animal in their familiar environment and discuss exactly what you need from us.

Your horse will then be assigned a key worker from our team of dedicated and experienced equine team, offering you and your horse the reassurance of familiarity and continuity of care. In case of emergencies, we will also assign a deputy key worker.

They will work in close partnership so that you can be certain your horse’s care will never be affected.

What’s included

Our service includes feeding, turning out, bringing in, mucking out, rug changes and grooming, all tailored to meet the needs of you and your horse. We can even be available to just check in on them to make sure they are comfortable and settled. Rest assured, your horse will never be left until we are satisfied that they are content and have all they need.

Trusting us

We know that trusting your horse’s care to someone else can feel daunting at first. This is why we assign a key worker who will fully get to know your pet. That way, any subtle changes to your horse’s behaviour, appetite or movement will be noticed straight away and you will be informed. If required, we can also be available to supervise vet visits and, of course, will take on the responsibility for any medical care that may be recommended.

Peace of mind

All our members of staff are fully qualified in Pet First Aid, are DBS checked and are fully insured. They each have their special area of experience and expertise.

Do you have experience handling horses?

Yes - our equine team has genuine hands-on experience with horses, not just general pet care knowledge. In 13 years we've cared for a great many horses across the region, and every horse is matched with a key worker who takes the time to properly get to know them.

What does an equine care visit include?

Feeding, turnout, bringing in, mucking out, rug changes and grooming — all tailored to your horse's existing routine. We can also simply check in to make sure they're comfortable and settled, if that's all you need.

Will the same person look after my horse every time?

Yes - your horse is assigned a dedicated key worker, with a deputy key worker always in place too, so there's never a stranger handling your horse and cover is never compromised.

What happens if my horse needs a vet or farrier while I'm away?

We hold your vet's details from the outset, and we're happy to supervise vet or farrier visits on your behalf. If your horse needs medical attention, we'll act immediately, contact you, and take on responsibility for any care that's recommended.

How often will you visit?

Visit frequency depends on what your horse needs - from once-daily check-ins to full multi-visit yard cover. We'll talk through your horse's routine at the meet and greet and put together a schedule that works.

Do you only cover horses kept at home, or yards too?

We're happy to cover horses wherever they're kept - at home or at a livery yard. Just let us know the location and routine when you get in touch.

Are you insured and qualified?

Every member of our equine team is Pet First Aid certified, DBS checked and fully insured.

Where do you offer equine care?

We cover Staffordshire and South Derbyshire, including Tamworth, Swadlincote, Burton-on-Trent, Lichfield, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Sutton Coldfield. Not sure if we reach you? Just ask.

Do you charge for key collection?

Your first key collection is free. We can hold onto your key, return it to a safe place you specify, or add it to your keysafe (if you have one) for easy access. If we need to collect a key again in the future, there's a small £6 charge.
